European and International Law Timisoara (bilingual)
The undergraduate degree program in European and International Law (DEI) is aimed at potential candidates interested in both traditional legal professions (magistrate, lawyer, notary, legal advisor, etc.) and in accessing professional opportunities offered by the international market (within the institutions of the European Union or other international organizations, in the academic field, etc.).
Given the specific nature of the undergraduate degree program in European and International Law, the general and specialized subjects belonging to the areas of international and European law will be studied in English, and the subjects specific to the Romanian legal system will be studied in Romanian, forming a common core with the subjects studied in the undergraduate degree program in Law (IF).
The added value of the European and International Law (IF) study program consists, on the one hand, in the broad opening it offers its graduates towards diversified career options, both at the national level (through access to traditional legal professions) and internationally (by facilitating access to professions within international organizations, European Union institutions, non-governmental organizations, etc.). On the other hand, students in the European and International Law (IF) undergraduate study program will be exposed, from the first year of studies, to constant interaction with professors and specialists invited from abroad, who will be engaged in teaching European and international law disciplines alongside the faculty of the Faculty of Law of the University of Târgu Mureș. Students will benefit from the interaction with over 30 guest lecturers within the program – teachers, researchers and professionals from abroad, judges at international courts.
In this way, students will benefit from a dynamic learning experience, based on a curriculum unique to Romania and on varied and innovative teaching methods, beneficially influenced by the multicultural nature of the teaching staff. No less valuable will be the opportunities to create (and consolidate) long-term academic and professional links, both between students in the European and International Law study program and the invited foreign professors, as well as between the latter and the teaching staff of the Faculty of Law of the West University of Timișoara.
In addition, the conduct of teaching activities related to European and International Law subjects entirely in English, as well as the in-depth study of this foreign language within the complementary Legal English subjects during the first two years of studies, will ensure the acquisition of optimal linguistic and legal skills for the successful integration of graduates of the European and International Law study program into any international academic or professional environment.
In addition to the fundamental and specialized theoretical subjects, students of the undergraduate degree program in European and International Law will have the opportunity to get involved in moot court activities, by participating in national, regional and international competitions of simulated trials in different areas of law. The optional Moot Court Training subjects, included in the curriculum starting with the second year of studies, will facilitate the acquisition of the practical skills and abilities necessary for the preparation of legal memoranda and the support of oral pleadings, thus developing among students a series of fundamental competencies for their future academic or professional careers.
